My name is Roozbeh Kavian and I’m a web designer, programmer, computer geek, friend that you call when your stuff is not working.I am… I am … fine, here it goes… a damn fine person, God’s gift to creation, friend of the community, Ultimate Fighting Championship contestant, member of the Save the Whales Foundation, the man who controls the black market on baby seal pelts and member of the “probably yo’ daddy” foundation. But on the serious note I run GQ Dev Interactive, a web development studio, that focuses on UX and UI.

Roozbeh Kavian

Jesse Schell’s talk about the future of game design as it...

Jesse Schell’s talk about the future of game design as it invades the real world is just astounding. There are some humorous acronyms which you would really understand if you have been into the field. My favorite

Asshole Driven development (ADD): Any team where the biggest jerk makes all the big decisions is asshole driven development. All wisdom, logic or process goes out the window when Mr. Asshole is in the room, doing whatever idiotic, selfish thing he thinks is best. There may rules and processes, but Mr. A breaks them and people follow anyway.

This boy by far is the cutest thing.

This boy by far is the cutest thing.

Gates Was Doubtful Over Google’s Potential

The future is hard to see even for the smartest people. The reason is simple: we focus on the wrong things. We look at technology and ask ourselves how it will get faster, better, and smaller. But actually, radical change comes from somewhere else: shifts in consumer behavior.

Think about what has happened to the media industry. For the past 50 years or so, media technology has been on a steady path of improvement: bigger screens, more resolution, better sound. Then the unthinkable happened.Rather than buying super-audio CDs, consumers started listening to low-quality MP3s. Instead of upgrading their movie library to Blu-ray discs, they started watching grainy videos on YouTube. People stepped off the traditional product cycle and traded quality for convenience and connectivity.

If you looked at Google, as Microsoft did in 2003, you might have simply seen a fast-growing Web-search startup. “These Google guys, they want to be billionaires and rock stars and go to conferences and all that,” said Bill Gates that year. “Let us see if they still want to run the buiness in two to three years.” What was harder to perceive is that Google represented not just a process improvement in network technology, but the vanguard of a major shift in consumer action.

The Web might have started as a series of documents joined together by hyperlinks, but it was fast becoming something else. Consumers were creating content, storing data, sharing media, and accessing applications—and all of it was taking place in a Web browser. In five short years, the tyranny of the Wintel era had been broken. The Web, rather than Windows, had become the operating system to watch.

Does that apply to your “Thanksgiving day?” As you sit down to your meal surrounded by family and friends do you actually give thanks for what you have received?

In these harsh times perhaps its time that we got back to basics and began to appreciate all that we have. Most of us have roofs over our heads and food on our tables. We have that aforementioned family and that, surely, is a great blessing when others are lonely. Should not we be giving thanks for friendship and what it means in our lives? Each one of us has been given talents and skills and as well as being grateful for them perhaps, at this time of thanksgiving, we should decide to use them. We may not sing like Pavarotti but we could entertain our acquaintances or help a party go with a swing.

Maybe too we should give thanks for living in a democracy where we can express our feelings through the ballet box. We should be thankful for the fact that we can walk down the street without fearing a hand on our shoulder snatching us off to imprisonment and torture.

Our health is, they say, our wealth and anyone who has been ill knows that is true. For most of us, whatever our illness, there is a hospital where we can avail of help and pain relief. Maybe as a token of our gratitude we might press for medical care to be more readily available to all who need it.

Thanksgiving you see is more than just being grateful. It is more than a secular holiday. It is a day for appreciating our own good fortune and sharing it with others. Whatever your creed or beliefs on this Thanksgiving Day remember the real reason for the celebration.

And last but not least I would like to thank every single one of our Tati Tati members for joining us. We are very grateful to have you on our side.

Payam Ghorbani
Tati Tati Foundation
President/Founder
www.tatitati.org
